Hand-Tied Extensions, & Why I Got Them

Talking extensions today, and diving deep into why I got them and the reality of what it is like to have extensions.  Long post here, but worth it if you have ever thought about extensions.

First of all, I have got to give up for my stylist of 24 years, Jennifer of Rebel Hand Tied Extensions. ❤ She has been on this hair journey with me for decades, and I owe her for this head of hair that I now have.

When I was in high school I had tons of hair.  Long, thick, wavy.  I wore it BIG too, with lots of hairspray.  Fast forward to my 20’s, and things started to change.  I had my two babies, but my health had started to deteriorate. I was having terrible issues with my back and spent most of my 20’s walking with a cane.  I went to countless doctors, endless tests, painful treatments, meds out the wazoo, and nothing helped.  Oddly enough, it wasn’t until my 6 year old son was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease that a rheumatologist ordered genetic testing because she finally figured out what it was.  I was diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, a severe form of arthritis of the lower spine.  I was able to begin effective treatments that have given me my life back, but the damage to my hair was done.  The meds I had been prescribed were known to cause hair loss.  My hair continued to get thinner.  I know it sounds vain, but I was heartbroken and just hated how I looked.

Here comes Jennifer to my rescue.  The extensions I have now are called hand tied, & they come in long wefts of human hair.  They are sewn to 8-10 beads per row that are attached to my hair.  I only have 2 1/2 rows of hair added. So the actual contact with my hair is minimal, which means less damage. It truly looks natural.  I am IN LOVE with them! Reality though, sleeping on them feels weird, it takes me much longer to get ready, & they ain’t cheap.  But I love them & feel 1000 times better about how I look. 😊 I am THRILLED with them!
